About The Initiative
The Belize Road Safety Initiative is used as a means to increase awareness of traffic laws and new legislation, safer driving practices, as well as to educate the public about risks and safe practices.
The objectives include the following:

Provide information about new or modified laws

Improve knowledge and/or awareness of new in-vehicle systems, risk, and appropriate preventative behaviors

Change underlying factors known to influence road-user behavior
-
Modify problem behaviors or maintain safety-conscious behaviors
-
Decrease the frequency and severity of crashes.
The Project Components:

Road Safety Infrastructure – improvements to the Western Highway between Belize City and Belmopan and the Belmopan Ring Road

Road User Education and Awareness – increasing awareness through campaigns targeting road users and students in schools along the Corridor

Road Safety Enforcement – improvement of traffic law enforcement through training and capacity enhancement of the relevant authorities (Police and Transport Departments; Municipalities)

Road Accident Emergency Services – improvement of post-crash trauma care

Road Safety Management - coordination of road safety initiatives.
