About The Initiative

The Belize Road Safety Initiative is used as a means to increase awareness of traffic laws and new legislation, safe driving practices, as well as to educate the public about risks and safe practices.

The objectives include the following:

• Provide information about new or modified laws (e.g., new penalties for impaired driving or speeding). 

• Improve knowledge and awareness of new in-vehicle systems, risks, and appropriate preventative behaviors 

• Change underlying factors known to influence road-user behavior (e.g., emphasizing that most people do not drink and drive; perceptions about speeding). 

• Modify problem behaviors or maintain safety-conscious behaviors

• Decrease the frequency and severity of crashes
